First time ever in NZ: Run or walk the Dunedin Airport runway!
1.9km long – round trip around 4km with taxi and take off.
Come on your own or make up a team. Consider seeking sponsorship for your run to help us with our target of raising $50k on the day for the new pool complex in Mosgiel Dunedin.

6am Pre race warm up
6.15am Runners start
6.20am Walkers start
Walkers will need to gather at the back of the field behind the runners please.

What do I need to bring with me to this event?
You must bring your entry ticket and Photo ID. It is a CAA requirement that everyone produces Photo ID and this will be checked.
When do entries close?
This event is limited to 500 people. As soon as the 500 places are filled, entries will close.
Can Children enter this event?
Participants must be aged at least 16 or over on or before the 28 January 2018.
Because this is a new event we have had to place this age restriction this year.
Is there prize money for the event?
We make no apology that there is no prize money for this event. We are offering a unique experience and the main purpose of this event is to help reach the target of funds needed for the new Aquatic Centre for Dunedin, to be built at Mosgiel.
Can I enter as a walker?
Walkers are welcome to take part in this event, as long as you are able to cover the 1.8km or 3.6km of the run/walk. You must complete the event within one hour, if you are unable to, you will be picked up by a support vehicle and returned to the entry point.
What is the weather likely to be?,
The average 6am temperature in Dunedin in January is 12 degrees. There will be some standing around before the event starts, so we suggest you have thermals and or a light jacket.
Can I dress up in costume for this event?
Because this event is on an Airport runway, we would prefer you wear normal active wear and running/walking footwear with no embellishments or accessories. We cannot risk any items being left on the runway.
Do you have travel or accommodation recommendations?
If you are travelling from out of town there are several accommodation options in Mosgiel. We are offering bus transport from Burns Lodge, who offer a range of accommodation options.
Is there an Official Event Merchandise range?
Run the Runway ’18 T shirts are available on line, purchase them with your tickets for pick up on the day.
Can you describe the Run the Runway course?
Participants will enter from the gates next to the emergency services at the far end of the terminal. Carparking will be available in the carpark at the far end of the complex. This will be signposted from the Airport Entrance and parking attendants will be on hand to help you with this.
Is there a time limit or cut off time for any of the events?
You must complete the event within one hour, if you are unable to, you will be picked up by a support vehicle and returned to the entry point.
Will the course be closed to traffic?
The runway is officially closed for the time of the race. If there is an emergency that means a plane needs to land, you will be directed what to do.
What are the rules of the run?
- Keep to the left of the course to allow people to pass on the right
- Be courteous to your fellow participants at all times
- Please obey instructions from race officials, volunteers, police and traffic management at all times
Has the course been officially measured?
No. This race if for fun and personal challenge and experience. The length of the runway is 1.8km.
What help is located on course?
Officials will be situated around the course and be easily identifiable. There will be a first aid stand at the Rescue Services building beside the entrance to the Run way.
You are allowed to carry 1 water bottle in the race
The airport facilities will also be open – entry only through the main doors on the car park side of the building.
Is the course open to Wheelchairs, Cycles, Roller Blades, Prams/Buggies, Skate-Boards, Walking Sticks?
Wheelchairs are allowed on the course
No cycles, roller blades, skate boards, hover boards or any other propulsion devices
Animals are not allowed on the course.
Because we have had to restrict the event to 16years and over, no buggies or prams allowed, babies or toddlers allowed.
Race Day Info
Where can I park?
You can choose to buy a Bus and Breakfast option Cost $30.
The bus will leave from Burns Lodge, Church St, Mosgiel. There is off street and road side parking at this venue.
If you wish to travel by vehicle, follow the signs for free event parking at the far end of the airport complex.
Spectators may also use the event parking – cost $5 per vehicle if no one in your vehicle has a ticket for the run.
How do I get to the race start?
Event Officials will help you find the entry point if you need assistance. Please go to the check in area, in the Main carpark.
Do I wear my race number on the back or front?
Please ensure your number is securely fastened to the front of your running top and is visible at all times.
Will the race be timed?
We will have a time clock at the event finish line. It will be up to individuals to note their own time as they cross the finish line.
How do I know where to stand at the start line?
Runners will stand at the front of the start line with walkers behind. Please use your own judgement as to where you should stand in the line up, to allow those serious runners space to run freely.
Can I take a mobile phone with me on the course?
You will be allowed to take your phone with you and are free to take pictures on the runway.
What if I have to drop out?
Please make your way to the nearest race officials. If you are unable to continue due to a medical emergency, please ask your fellow competitors to inform the next visible race official or volunteer who will be able to inform medical services of your location.
What facilities will there be at the finish area?
Once you have exited the runway, there will be a food and drinks stand in the grass carpark area at the end of the terminal. The cafes in the Airport will be open if you would like to purchase a coffee or breakfast.

Any donations to this event, over $5 are eligible for a 33.3% tax credit. Receipts can be given.
Run the Runway: Terms and Conditions
By purchasing your ticket for this Run the Runway event you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
This race is limited to 500 entrants
Photo ID is to be brought with you to the sign in area, no one will be allowed on the runway without Photo ID (This is a CAA requirement)
Only those preregistered teams or individuals are permitted to take part. There will be no registrations on the day
All runners need to be over 16 years of age on the 28th January 2018
Wheelchairs are allowed.
If a runner is unable to attend on the day, their place is forfeited, no refunds
Participants will be allowed a plastic or metal water bottle on the runway
Participants will be allowed to carry a cell phone with them
Due to security restrictions at the airport:
No spectators will be permitted on the runway.
Participants will be subject to normal airport security procedures.
Please do not bring valuables with you as you will be asked to leave all belongings (outerwear, bags, etc.) in a designated area in the main race check in area before going through security.
The airport, the event organisers or volunteers involved take no responsibility for any loss or damage to items left in this area.
To be allowed through security, you must be wearing your runner’s number.
Participants may park their cars in the special event parking at the far end of the Airport (will be signposted)
There will be no changing facilities available in the registration area. Please arrive with kit on, or under clothes.
Ensure you arrive on time – the last opportunity to access the airfield will be 6am
There will be a time clock on the runway at the finish line. Participants are responsible for noting their own time on the time clock provided.
Participants must obey all rules and signs on the day of the event.
By accepting these terms and conditions you are acknowledging you understand the rules and that you agree to abide by them.
I/WE HEREBY INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS the persons or entities mentioned in (a) above from any and all liabilities sustained directly or indirectly attributable to the cancellation, suspension, rescheduling or reduction of the Event from the period advertised for reasons beyond the Event Organiser’s reasonable control including without limitation acts of war, strikes, lockouts, military activity, municipal, statutory or civil authority requisition, any act of nature, fire, flood, tempest, volcano, inclement weather, earthquake, or combinations of any of the foregoing, or damage caused by an aerial object or aircraft.
